Unite Against the War on Women

Fantastic event coming up!

Help defend women’s rights and pursuit of equality. Join Americans all across the United States on April 28th, 2012, as we come together as one to tell members of Congress in Washington DC and legislators in all 50 states, “Enough is enough!”

The Sacramento event will be held at the State Capitol as follows:

10:15 – Meet up at Capitol Mall, 3rd St and Capitol Mall to support WEAVE men walking against sexual assault OR at Sac Amtrak Station, I St @ 5th St!

10:30 am – walk to North Steps of Capitol Building

11am – Rally at North Steps of the Sacramento State Capitol Building (L Street at 11th Street)

1pm – March to Fremont Park

1:30 -5 pm Rally at Fremont Park (T street at 6th Street)
Speakers, musicians, workshops and organizations from across the state will be there representing voting rights, healthcare, equal pay, education and more.

V-Day Sacramento 2012!

Sacramento Women Take Back the Night is proud to once again be a participant in the 2012 worldwide V-Day Campaign. We have been granted the rights to host a V-Day benefit production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” which will increase awareness and raise money to end violence against women and girls. This year, event proceeds will go to support the 2012 V-Day Spotlight Campaign on Haiti and local organizations Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH), My Sister’s House, and WEAVE.

We will be holding two performances. The first will be at The Guild Theater on Monday, April 9 and will be followed by a panel discussion with members of the cast, V-Day Sacramento organizing committee, and representatives from our beneficiaries. The second will be at The Crest on Saturday, April 14, which will include a Silent Auction before the show to further support our beneficiaries. Representatives from our beneficiaries will be present at both performances

V-Day Sacramento 2012 Auditions

V-Day Sacramento is a project of Sacramento Women Take Back the Night.

Auditions for the V-Day Sacramento 2012 production of The Vagina Monologues will be:

Thursday 1/19, 6-8pm at Chicory Coffee and Tea (1131 11th Street in Sacramento)

Saturday 1/21, 10-2pm at Mondo Bizarro (1827 I St in Sacramento)

AND

Sunday 1/22, 10-2pm at Mondo Bizarro (1827 I St in Sacramento)

No previous acting experience required!

Two Anti-Human-Trafficking Events

2012 is kicking off with two great events to raise awareness about human trafficking and to stand against it. We’re posting them here to spread the word!

January 11 – 6pm-9pm:

“Voices of Hope”, a spoken word, music and art event to raise awareness about human trafficking in Sacramento will be held in the evening at Mondo Bizarro (1827 I Street, Sacramento).

Come out for the conference “Human Trafficking: Law Enforcement Responds”, organized by My Sister’s House and held at the Alumni Center at CSU Sacramento.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to the 2011 Rally, marched in solidarity, and joined forces to take back the night. The energy at the event from the hundreds there was electric, inspiring, and a call to action against violence.

The 32nd Annual Sacramento Women Take Back the Night March and Rally is upon us! Join us this SATURDAY October 8 as we take to the streets and take back the night. The event will go on rain or shine (though the forecast is shine)!

Volunteers Needed and 2011 Co-Sponsors Posted!

Sacramento Women Take Back the Night is recruiting volunteers for the October 8 Rally.

Positions include:

Security Volunteers to ensure a safe space for all event participants and attendees and to respond to any disturbances at the Rally and along the march route.

March Monitors to help with set-up and take down, hand out programs during the Rally, and accompany the march, encouraging everyone to TAKE BACK THE NIGHT!

Shifts are planned as follows:

Set up- 3pm-5pm
Rally- 5pm-8pm
March- 8pm-9pm
Take Down- 8pm-10pm

A Volunteer Orientation will be held in the parking lot of the Sacramento Native American Health Center at 2020 J Street (the site where the event will be held) from 3-4:30pm on Sunday, October 2nd. After the orientation we will have a BBQ/Flower-Making Party to prepare for the event.

2011 March Against Slavery

Sacramento Women Take Back the Night will be participating in Chab Dai’s Sacramento March Against Slavery Sunday September 18 in Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento. We will be there from 12pm-3pm handing out flyers and marching against human trafficking.
